It all started in Dec. of 1999, when a friend of ours who was in the window cleaning business, was ready to change careers. He had spent about five years in the window cleaning business providing services to the Texarkana area while involved heavily in the ministry field, and had decided to pursue his calling in the minitstry. One evening at a Bar-B-Q at his home we were discussing how he would leave his clients and what he wanted to assure that they would be taken care of. I briefly mentioned that i may be interested in the business and would like to learn more. To shorten the story down a little: after several weeks of prayer and discussion with the "wiser" people in our lifes Amber and I felt like we should pursue the opportunity and step out in faith. To say the least, we were not rolling in money and had actually only been married one year at this point, so we had to scrape together everything we had. With God's guiding hand we were able to pull together enough money to purchase what had been "Nick's Window Cleaning". It really was not a lot of money, but at the time $10 was a lot of money and we literally had to break the piggy bank to get all of the money together.
The choice to purchase this small business was really a leap in faith for us. At the time i was working with a fortune 500 company in a sales and marketing position and Amber was working at the Bank. We knew that the business would not make enough money for us to only work on it. We also understood that in order to reach the vision that we had for the business, that it would require a lot of time and work. We knew that God would work out the details and we just stood firm in our decision and tried to get things together to take over the existing 25 clients in a month. It was awesome to be forced to depend on God's hand in things and to see everything fold out and fit his plan. While i was working with the fortune 500 company it was my job to pre-interview potential sales people. One day during an interview for a sales position, i ran across a guy (Dan Mcnabb) who was interested in a new opportunity and a new carreer. After an hour or so in the interview he had determined that the hours of the position with the fortune 500 company would be to demanding for his new marriage and his son. I told him about the company that i was to be taking over in the next month and asked if he would be interested in a position in this company. He agreed to come over to the house that evening and learn more about the position. So after the visit that evening at the house, Dan decided to take me up on the offer and would begin work the following week.
Dan began work with Nick training for the position of Window Cleaning Supervisor the following week. I continued to work with the fortune 500 company and on my lunch breaks, after work, on the weekends and any other time that i could squeeze out of a day, i worked on the branding, and growth of A CLEAR VIEW (our new name for the company) Dan was working out great and really caught on to the art of window cleaning. Within about three months we had really changed the face of the company. We had become a real, insured, registered, business and had added about 65 new clients to our list of routine clients. God was at work and in the middle of all of my plans and actions in the company, and Dan had made a new commitment to walk with God in his life (this in itself was worth all of the time and effort i had put into the company, even if we would have closed our doors the day after that decision) Things were really crazy! If a day had an hour in it, i was working in that hour (in or on A CLEAR VIEW). I continued working 60 hrs. a week at the fortune 500 company and every other hour in our new company. Amber was a constant support and i absolutely could not have continued without her support and encouragement in my life. Lets fast forward a little:>>>>>>>>>9 months into it, i was getting tired of working 90 hrs. a week and Amber and I had to make a choice on what to stick to: the fortune 500 company or A CLEAR VIEW, we had to put all of our efforts into one venture and trust that God would work out the details. After several weeks of prayer and talking it over with one another Amber and I made a decision to pursue A CLEAR VIEW.
Once again, we were walking in 100% Faith. We knew that the business could not support us financially at the time and that Amber would have to keep her job at the Bank for us to pay our bills. I continued to work the same kind of hours each week, only now focused soley on A CLEAR VIEW. We soon saw the payoff, as we began growing rapidly. We added new clients, an average of 4 a week. Which required us to add new Team members, the search for new members was on. I did not want to just hire anyone, simply to fill a position. I also had a responsibility to my clients to bring on honest, reliable and friendly members to serve them. I began praying diligently that God would send the right person at the right time, and i stood still and waited. During a service Sunday morning, a young man and his family had caught my eye and i really felt like this might be the candidate for the position. I faught with myself on wether or not to talk to him, and decided that i would just give him a card, tell him about who we were and leave the rest up to God. When service was over i approached him and did exactly what i had planned, brief and to the point. A couple days later, i get a call from a young man (Tony Colvin), the guy i had given the card to. He told me that he had been working for a company for about five years and was happy with the position, but felt like he was supposed to come work with us. Two weeks later, we added Tony Colvin to our Team. The addition of Tony to the team was great, he did a great job and had a great attitude. Over the next season we really grew. We grew in our client base. We grew in our experience, We grew in our Team. We grew in our services offered. We were excited and God was showing us that following his will was paying off. We had finnally gotten to a point that we were making enough money in the business to make a living (barely, but we did not need much)
At the end of that year, we were offered a chance to take a vacation with Ambers parents to Orange Beach Al. and we certainly needed one. We had not stopped working on or in the business since we started it (of course we could not have afforded to take a vacation anyway), and decided to take them up on their offer. During the drive down, with Amber resting in the back, i was thanking God for all he had done in our lives and in our business. I was at awe how faithfull he had been, and how we had not needed one thing that was not provided for us during the last few years. It had been great stepping out in faith and seeing God work in our lives. A little while into my time with God, i felt that he was leading me to expand my vision for the business. I invisioned our little company out of Texarkana Texas would grow to employ 300-400 people and that we would be a nationwide company. That we would provide service in what we currently offered as well as additional services to come. To say the least, i was a bit overwhelmed by the thought. How would we do this? Where would the money come from? How could we even find 300-400 people to fit the mold? Where would the management team for such and endeavor come from?...I had a lot of questions, but i knew i had heard from God on it, and i knew i was to stand in faith. This new vision was bigger than me, and much bigger than i had imagined our company ever being. In order for us to reach this new level, we would have to follow God's guiding, we would have to walk in faith. On our way back from Orange Beach, it was revealed to me, in order to reach this vision we would franchise.
As soon as we returned from our vacation, i immediately began researching the existing franchises. I wanted to understand what made a great franchise, what would make us the best. I looked into the top
