Why is it important to clean my chimney?

Creosote and soot are natural by-products of burning fuel. They deposit to the inside of yor chimney or flue pipe as a solid sticky, black layer that is highly flamable. This needs to be regularly cleaned from your chimney or flue pipe. Regular cleaning will reduce build up and allow for a more efficient burning fire. When a fireplace is not maintained and creosote and soot build up you increase the possibility of a fire in your home.

How often should i have this service done?

A routine maintenance contract, that includes a yearly inspection, is the best thing for a home owner or building manager to have in place. Most professionals would recomend that you have your chimney inspected and cleaned after you burn between 2 and 4 cords of wood. For most people this would be about once a year.

What is the process?

We start off by covering the area in front of your fireplace with tarps to protect your surfaces. We then set up a special high powered vacuum that will keep the dust from spreading through the home. From the roof we inspect and remove the topper, and feed and inspection camera down the chimney. After the inspection is completed, we provide you with a report on what we found and if we recomend having the cleaning done. We can provide an inspection video for you along with our detailed written report. If the chimney does need cleaned or repaired, we provide a detailed proposal of service that we will complete along with the total cost. To clean the chimney we use a series of brushes designed for cleaning chimneys. Using these brushes and special fiberglass poles we clean the inside of the entire area of the chimney. At the fireplace level we remove all ash and clean the damper area and the inside of the fire box. After completion we make sure all debris is cleaned up and we remove the tarps from the home. A final inspection of the work area is done to ensure that we leave the inside of your home in good order. We reinstall the cap and the job is complete. Now you have a clean and safe chimney!
